Maria is pictured here discussing myths of what trafficking looks like in our country. Ropes, chains, cages - that is what comes up when you Google trafficking. However, this is not accurate. These images can be harmful because it makes it difficult to identify when this is what everyone is expecting to see. Trafficking victims are hidden in plain site.

More than a million people live in conditions of modern slavery in the United States today, according to the Global Slavery Index, or about 3.3 out of every 1,000 people in the country. And the National Human Trafficking Hotline found 1,533 human trafficking cases involving nearly 3,000 victims in Maryland since 2007.
